Today we will start by reviewing the problems from last day’s class.

Next, we will review the processes for solving word problems. We are doing this, so that we can prepare to solve our own real-world problems.

For your unit summative task, you will be asked to research or choose a scenario that can be modelled by an exponential relation. Your mission is to prepare a presentation to showcase your findings.

We will take up and use this to reflect on what we know:

  • identify that exponential functions can be represented by the general equation y=ab∧x and identify what the “a” “b” and “x” represent
  • determine whether an equation is an exponential relation
  • represent exponential decay through a table, equation, and graph

We will investigate what an exponential decay relation looks like. You will each get 100 coins in your small groups. Use the instructions on PG 157 in your text. Make notes as you perform this investigation. We will use this as a basis for our notes on exponential decay.

Once we have looked at your results and summarized our findings, compare this to our work last day. How are exponential growth and exponential decay related?

We will try a few problems together, then in your groups you will practice.
